Welcoming Gabriel Reed

July 16, 2026

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gabriel Reed as Interim Director of IDSVA, effective August 1, 2026. Dr. Reed brings over a decade of experience in education and nonprofit leadership as the former Director of Innovation at Via International, a San Diego-based institution where he designed and coordinated immersive educational programs and fostered international partnerships through community development and global travel. Dr. Reed is an accomplished artist-philosopher and educator whose artistic and scholarly practice bridges philosophical and ceramic traditions, centering on aesthetic material, imagination, and thinking through fire.

Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Reed is currently based in Cali, Colombia, where he continues to present his scholarly work at conferences such as the Comparative and Continental Philosophy Circle (CCPC) and the Pacific Association for the Continental Tradition (PACT). His recent exhibitions include Obstacles at San Diego Art Department Gallery and Emptiness and Form at the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Mountain View, Hawai’i. Dr. Reed earned his PhD from IDSVA in 2024 with a dissertation titled Clay and Being: Ceramics and the Restoration Ecology of Material Imagination. He also holds an MFA in Ceramics and Three-Dimensional Design from Bowling Green State University and a BFA in Ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute. Please join us in welcoming Gabriel to the executive team as we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of IDSVA's founding and plan for its bright future!

A search for a long-term Director position will be announced in the fall.
