Library
Your research happens everywhere—in online seminars, during international residencies, and in quiet moments between travels. IDSVA's digital library is designed for this nomadic way of learning, giving you seamless access to world-class research resources no matter where your studies take you.

A Digital Library for Nomadic Research
Our fully online library provides graduate-level support through comprehensive database access and interlibrary loan services, plus personalized reference and instructional guidance. The collection reflects our interdisciplinary approach, encompassing philosophy, visual arts, art theory, aesthetics, cultural studies, and the countless fields where these boundaries blur.
Research Resources: You'll have access to premier academic databases including JSTOR, Project MUSE, and the ACLS Humanities e-book Collections, plus specialized resources like the MLA Handbook Online and Oxford English Dictionary. Through our partnership with the Maine State Library, you can access additional materials through interlibrary loans and contribute your dissertation to IDSVA's digital repository. The library also houses faculty and alumni publications, creating connections between your current research and the ongoing work of the IDSVA community.
Expert Guidance: Librarian Erin Perfect provides the expertise you need to navigate complex research questions, recommending resources, interpreting findings, offering instructional sessions, and helping you develop research strategies tailored to your interdisciplinary work. Whether you're tracking down obscure philosophical texts or contemporary art criticism, you'll have expert support every step of the way. This library embodies IDSVA's commitment to innovation and adaptability—evolving continuously to serve your changing needs as you move from coursework through residencies to dissertation research. It's an essential part of how we support critical inquiry, interdisciplinary dialogue, and cross-cultural exchange on a global scale.

IDSVA is also proud to partner with The Driskell Center Archives. The Archives document and preserve the histories of African American art and documents related to African diasporic studies, making them broadly accessible to researchers, scholars, and students working toward a more democratic world.
